Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

There is a sick person in his household who has had a nosebleed (ruʿāf) for the entire week (the word "sick person" could plausibly be emended to "maraḍ" from "marīḍ," meaning that the writer himself has a nosebleed, but the next line, "I was away," suggests that it was rather someone in his family).

Might be a draft with instructions for a scribe, given that it ends with "the greeted" (al-mukhaṣṣaṣīn) rather than actually writing out greetings for all those people, who include Avraham, Shemuel, Menaḥem, Abū l-Riḍā, Abū l-Maḥāsin, and Abū ʿAlī.

  49. 5599Paraliterary textT-S K21.35

Public prayer (mi sheberakh) for a representative of the merchants ("neʾeman ha-soḥarim") named Moshe ha-Kohen in gratitude for his works of charity on behalf of the poor, scholars, synagogues, and yeshivas. The prayer is entirely in Hebrew and mostly formulaic until the final line where a custom wish in Judaeo-Arabic was added after "may God grant all his wishes": that Moshe be reunited with Abū Naṣr his sister's son (mentioned also in T-S Ar.42.213 (PGPID 21145)).

Only the ת 400 numeral is legible without enhanced imaging. Rashīd (Rosetta) is mentioned in line 9, Istanbul in l. 21, and possibly Venice somewhere, but these references may only be describing goods.
