The sender, a newcomer in Fustat from Yemen, describes himself as 'a pigeon whose wings have been clipped' (line 1), writes to his brother in Alexandria concerning his trouble having to live on a half or a quarter dirham a day, and also relating family news. […] This suggests the letter was folded when the ink was still wet or was folded for many years in the Geniza, causing the ink to transfer. The reverse side also features mirror text, which seems to be the continuation of this letter.

Fiscal document with at least three distinct sections. 1) The main text block concerns ships, requisitioning, ḍummān, and the officials charged with transporting crops from al-Nastarāwiyya to Tinnīs. Similar themes to T-S Ar.40.37 (PGPID 8264). Headed "accounts" (aḥsiba). 2) At lower left: "ʿamālat al-miʿṣarat al-qaṣab..."—the official allowance for the sugarcane press for (the amīr X) al-Mulk. […] The second is in the name of al-Muwaffaq [...]. 4) A later scribe evidently folded the page in half and used the left side of recto for private accounts, now in fainter ink and ina non-fiscal hand.

[…] There are earlier mentions of Samaritans in Egypt in a handful of Greek papyri from the 5th and 6th centuries, and they also appear in several Geniza documents from the 11th and 12th centuries. Already a recipient of communal charity, the writer requests that the 'almoner' (gabbae= gabbaʾei sedaqa) be given instructions to increase her allotment (tamid) owing to her children's needs. The scribe's name appears at the bottom: Abū l-Majd b. ʿAlī. Dated: 506 AH (or possibly 560, but this seems less likely on paleographic grounds). […] The payment is for the ground rent (ḥikr) for a compound in the Sūq al-Kabīr (in Fustat?). The scribe has written sūq al-kabīr rather than al-sūq al-kabīr, omitting the definite article, probably due to elision of the vowel after fī and the consonant before the sun-letter in sūq.

Avraham summarizes various business developments, many of which are also known to us from his uncle Yeḥezqel's letters to Ḥalfon, including the matter of Abū Yiṣḥaq (Sijilmāsī), who left for Yemen on Wednesday, the third of the month of Adar I (= 24 January 1140 CE), with goods and letters written by Ḥalfon.
