  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

The letter emphasizes the close connection between the Yemeni Jewish communities and Mevorakh, revealing that Yemeni Jewry during this period was connected to Egypt and the Palestinian Rabbanite yeshiva, and not only to the Babylonian Yeshivot as had been believed (see on this Ashur and Outhwaite, “An Eleventh-Century Pledge of Allegiance to Egypt from the Jewish Community of Yemen” CmY 22 (Juil. 2016) 34).

The secondary scribal hand on the verso is likely that of the person whom this document was issued to given that they signed in a mixture of Hebrew and Ladino "אני קונפראדו גירא(נ)שיה" ("I purchased guarantee"; alternatively this is the writer's name, or he is referring to himself as "Konfrado," i.e., brother).

Partly overlapping with the phrase מסכת סוכה — it's unclear which text was written first — there appear the first two verses of Genesis in a large square scribal hand and the word עמנואל underneath in the same hand. Identified by Alan Elbaum in Dec. 2025. Based on Mordechai Akiva Friedman and Amir Ashur's assessment, this is unlikely to be the signature of Maimonides himself.

Gershon Weiss (who did not know about the join with T-S 12.571) explains that Abū l-Ḥasan Eliyyahu, the nephew and likely partner of Abū Saʿd, testified that the latter's will instructed that his inheritance of bales of flax would go to Eliyyahu's mother and sister.
