Legal document. Partnership agreement. Written in the hand of Ḥalfon b. […] In bad repair, this fragment (T-S 8J22.16) reveals part of a partnership document between ʿOvadya and Menashshe ha-Kohen. It is signed by Ḥalfōn b. Menashse and Menashse ha-Kohen b. […] T-S 12.525 expresses that the store sold olive oil and legumes, and the partners invested equally (9 dinars each, ʿOvadya in cash and Menashshe in goods such as linseed oil, olives, and lemon juice).

Goitein translation of the illness passage (r5–11), slightly altered, is as follows: "You have received no letter from me, because exhaustion (iltiyāth) did not leave my body from the very time I left. […] But God the exalted was merciful to me for the sake of His name and gave me health. I was able to leave the house, but the remnant of the weakness (or 'illness'; baqiyyat al-ḍuʿf) is still with me.

India Book I, 10–11: Court proceedings from Fustat dealing with the dispute between Yosef ha-Lebdi the India trader, and Yequtiʾel b. Moshe, 'the representative of merchants' in Fustat. […] These are the proceedings of the seventh session. Just before Lebdi and Yequtiʾel were about to make a solemn oath by the Torah, important merchants intervened in an attempt to prevent such a serious undertaking. The two sides agree to postpone the oath ritual until the arrival of the messenger of 'Yemen and India.' This agent was to deliver the testimony of Ḥasan b.

[…] In which Ḥalfon gives instructions about managing relationships in the community and the arrival and sending of goods and letters. Dating: 1131. Begins in the middle of a sentence, suggesting that at least one page is missing. […] Ḥasan, Ibn Jamāhir, Ḥalfon's doubts about whether to return to Egypt or go to India, the arrival of foreigners in Aden, and Yaʿqūb’s letter, probably Yaʿqūb b. Sālim. Based on all the above, Goitein and Friedman date the letter to 1131.
