[…] If the mention of ʿAbd Allāh in l. 2 refers to Ibn Yijū's associate the nākhudā Abū ʿAbd Allāh who died in 1146, then these accounts would date to 1146 or earlier.

Yiṣḥaq reports that the chief cantor died after four months of lying in bed with terrible pains. […] Defending himself, Yiṣḥaq writes, "You know the ḥamas of the Rīf. A person may die from less than this." Goitein understands "ḥamas" to be the Hebrew word variously meaning violence, anger, injustice, or false witness (but usually referring to governmental persecution in Geniza documents).

She prays to God that she will see the addressee's face before she dies. "When your [brother?] said to her, 'Let her take the rhubarb-barberry pastille and make it […] and hopefully it will abate,' my master, she said, 'I do not want any of this unless he obtains a prescription, and the prescribing physician prepares it for me and sends it.' […] If her condition becomes fatal, your mother will die next. She will never live after her. The best is for them to slake their yearning for you, and you will gain your mother’s prayers."

The shāwīsh maintained that the writer owed him 427 Venetian gold coins (peraḥim banādiqa) (r32–33). But the community of Gaza came to the rescue of the writer and agreed to stand security for the loan (r28, v14) that he would need to take out in order to pay off various people to avoid being dragged off to Damascus (r19–31).

Verso: Accounts with various types of coinage and goods mentioned. Likely dating to the sixteenth century on the basis of numismatic evidence. Two of the accounts mention "Brahīmī" coinage alongside bunduqī (gold ducats) and fiḍḍa (possibly medin). The term "Brahīmī" could be a reference to coinage that was minted during or after Avraham Castro's tenure as overseer of the Ottoman mint in Cairo (1520-1524 CE).
