Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

Nearly complete letter in Judaeo-Arabic to Abū l-Ḥusayn Ṣedaqa b. Nissim al-Mukallifī (אלמכלפי ?) in Alexandria. The letter is written on a fragment torn from a large chancery document; only the beginnings of two Arabic lines remain‌ (الى بيع مدىىن(؟) . . . […] Apart from urging the addressee to respond and reassure him, the writer also informs him that ״אערצת אלסרר״ (?) but it didn't come to anything (or gain any money?).

[isti]frāgh min kull budd allāh yajʿal al-ʿāqiba...); 20 dirhams; and something he needs. Concludes with petition-like phrases of deference and asking for help. Join: Alan Elbaum. Verso: Probably the response from Abū Naṣr, stating that the order has arrived, and he was distressed at the news, and probably that he will act on it. Verso also contains several words in Arabic script from an earlier state document, see separate record (PGPID 35377)

List in Hebrew, primarily in the first-person preterite of what someone has given "נתתי" to someone else (perhaps paid). A few of the entries also mention that some of these transfers are outgoing "from Miṣrayīm"– Cairo, Fustat, or Egypt. Other entries mention what has been transfer "by ship" and "בשקדריי" (a location? Shkodër in Albania). For another instance of this cryptic term "שקדריי" see T-S AS 210.78 (PGPID 38144). This list in Hebrew is likely from a broader booklet ENA 2898.7-14 where accounts also mention payments in sherifi (שרפי= produced post-1425 CE).

The writer requests that the addressee give the five dirhams nuqra that al-Rayyis Abū l-Ḥasan b. al-Rayyis Abū l-Najm had deposited with him to to the bearer of the letter. Abū l-Ḥasan had already sent to the writer all the dinars owed him and in the accompanying letter mentioned that he had given five dirhams nuqra to the addressee of the present letter. […] There are a few surviving words in Arabic script, probably the address; the first two appear to read 'bayt al-qāḍī.' Information in part from FGP.
