  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

Letter in Ottoman Turkish to a state official regarding a rabbi's travels to Jerusalem. […] Samuel probably carried this letter with him on his journey. This may explain why the space in line 1 for the official’s name and position are left blank, although it is possible they were written in above the line, as was common in this type of letter, and have not survived, since the letter’s top margin shows signs of tearing. […] Samuel may therefore have carried several copies of this letter, and the one that found its way to the Genizah may be one that he did not use.

Jewish communal letter in Arabic script. Mostly in Arabic language, with at least one word in Hebrew (اليشوعا, v8). Legal document. Record of release. Dating: March 1097. […] Nathan the Ḥaver from obligations in a long-distance trading partnership which had taken their father, apparently the active partner, to Tripoli or Lebanon. The release clauses absolve Samuel from any further obligation in either “a partnership (shirka)” or “a commenda (muḍāraba)”. […] This evidence is strengthened by the fact that TS 16.87 is dated to the twenty-first of Adar in the year 1097, which was a Sunday; this could have been three days before the "Wednesday the twenty-fourth" mentioned in line 23 of this document as the delayed date of execution.

Maimonides' decree on menstrual purity. Dated 1487 Seleucid = 1175/76 CE. See Eve Krakowski, "Maimonides' Menstrual Reform in Egypt," JQR (2020), 245–89.

Worst of all, most of them rely on complete heresy and [a word] that God did not say, namely that the menstruant has a woman who is not menstruating pour what they call “pure” water over her, thinking that if she were to pour the water over herself, she wouldn’t be purified and permitted to her husband.

A variety of coinage types are mentioned and the appearance of Maḥmūdīya in line 1 points to the likelihood that the list was recorded following the onset of Sultan Maḥmūd II's reign in 1808. This chronological marker is plausible because Ottoman yüzlük coinage is mentioned in the same list, which was first minted in 1789.

[…] The court considered his request justifiable (ll. 11-12) and accordingly the creditor gave the agent his power of attorney (ll. 16-17), and sent him to collect the debt and properly issue a release to the debtor (ll. 18-21).

When a creditor or debtor uses a ḥawāla, he is transferring his claim or obligation to a third party, essentially saying, instead of paying me directly/instead of my paying you directly, the debt should be collected from this third person. By saying אחלתה עלי פלאן, he means, "I transferred/assigned the collection to so-and-so.
