Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

India Book II, 27: Copy of a letter from Maḍmūn b. Ḥasan, in Aden, to Avraham Ibn Yiju. However, the content of the letter and some of its phrases are very similar to those in Maḍmūn's other letters, and the sender is writing from Aden, so the identification of Maḍmūn as the sender likely stands.

(It is also possible that mutālaba refers to seeking legal redress against someone who has wrongfully appropriated the property.) […] The title of the governor, ending in al-dawla, dates the letter to the Fatimid period. The text also contains a taqbîl clause in which the petitioner kisses the hand of the addressee rather than the ground, so this puts it likely but not definitely in the late Fatimid period.

Catalogued as 18th century, which seems a good guess. The letter is a justification of why community A acted a certain way when a man arrived and presented a letter of recommendation from community B. The letter of recommendation bore the signatures of many of the notable men of community B (which are listed again in this letter). […] So they refused to honor his letter of recommendation. It seems the purpose of the present letter is to explain what has happened so that the leaders of community B do not think that they are not respected in community A.
