Letter from Avraham Ibn Miṣbāḥ, in Alexandria to Eliyyahu the Judge, in Fustat. Written in the hand of Avraham ha-Melammed b. Yefet. "I arrived in Alexandria with Manṣūr b. Simḥa ha-Kohen and found all the {orphan} children sick (marḍā tālifīn). […] Eliyyahu is his patron; he repeatedly praises his generosity and reports how he praised him to various people in Alexandria. The writer has been waiting around in Alexandria for various officials to help him, and in the interim receives bread from the public distribution.

List of communal funds dated 1651 (Iyyar 5411 AM) that may relate to stipends allotted for Torah study given the fact that the verso mentions haspaqa (הספקה) in Cairo (or perhaps all of Egypt: "יד אלבעלי תורה אלדי כאנו במצר ען אל הספקה"). […] This number seems somewhat high to have applied to just Cairo and might also include Torah scholars from Alexandria and Rosetta (Rashīd) which appear collectively in the final line of figures Toward the bottom of the recto. […] "Maghrebi" congregation(s). Some entries also include mention of unnamed study(?) partners (שותפו), such as: "Moshe Villisid and his partner" and "Yaʿacōv Zagdun and his partner."

Family letter from Natan b. Yehuda (Alexandria, ca. 1160) to Moshe b. Ṣemaḥ and his brother (Fustat), the writer’s cousins-in-law. […] Yehuda reports that everyone in the house was ill because of a great epidemic of sweating sickness (wakham) in Alexandria. He praises the brothers for their munificence but also politely reminds them that it was time for them to marry and wishes that their mother may see their “joy”.

[…] These are prefaced by an apology for bothering ʿEli when he has so many strangers to take care of (wa-ʿalā annī aʿlam anna ʿalayh ʿā'ila kabīra min al-ghurabā')—it seems that عائلة is being used here in its broader sense of "dependents" rather than a literal family.

Capitation tax receipt for a 1 dinar payment made by Bū l-Thanāʾ b. Bū Saʿd b. Ṭayyib al-Murakkib (the saddle maker) in New Cairo and Fustat for the year 405 AH, which is 1014/15 CE. Dated: 21 Muḥarram. Registration mark: 'al-ḥamdu lil-lāh ʿalā niʿamih', all praise be to God for his benefactions (found twice on recto and once on verso). Verso also has some numbers written out in Judaeo-Arabic (might be a writing exercise).

[…] In which ha-Levi mentions the exaggerated honors the Jews of Alexandria bestowed on him, especially Aharon Ibn al-ʿAmmānī. […] In the continuation, he responds to Ḥalfon’s "depression and sadness of heart," which is also mentioned in IV, 92. Yehuda ha-Levi explains that this is a natural response to Ḥalfon's grief over the death of his brother ʿEli.

It is not clear where he is — perhaps in Saite (l. 4); at any rate it seems to be beyond Alexandria for someone writing from Fustat (l. 15). […] That this is not merely a nickname or a calqued expression is clear from the fact that it is given with the Greek definite article, and in the accusative case to suit the context. The spelling of "Alexandria" is also typically Greek. The writer's Hebrew reveals various signs of the influence of spoken Greek (see the notes). The addressee is presumably also a Greek-speaker, otherwise she would not understand the Greek phrase in line 18."

The writer describes the conditions in Ascalon against the background of the Turcoman/Seljuk invasions, and how he traveled from Ascalon to Jerusalem and visited his abandoned house to recover some books, but only found dafātir and maṣāḥif that had been destroyed by the damp. The girl, al-Jawziyya, whom he had wanted to marry in Ascalon, had become engaged to somebody else. There ensued a legal struggle which involved an official titled Sitr al-Dawla, apparently Abū ʿAbdallāh al-Ma'mūn Yaḥyā Ibn Kātib al-Baṭā'iḥī, who became the vizier in Egypt following al-Afḍal. At the time of the present letter, he was evidently the Fatimid governor in Ascalon. His son Jamāl al-Mullk (Mūsā) is also mentioned, who later became the general of the Fatimid army in Palestine and who lived in Ascalon.

[…] The joins of the decree fragment when pieced together refer to the need of restoring the area surrounding the gulf/bay - 'li ḥāja dāʿiya ilā ʿimārat al-khuluj' and the allotment of irrigation from these canals: 'aqsaṭ min al-rī min hādhihi l-khuluj.
