    Court record written and signed by Ḥalfon b. Menashshe ha-Levi. Dated: Ṭevet 1438 Seleucid, which is 1126/27 CE. A woman (Ḥasana bt. Menashshe ha-Kohen the wife of Elʿazar b. Mevorakh ha-Kohen) had sued her brother (the banker Abū l-Ḥasan Shelomo b. Menashshe ha-Kohen) in the Muslim courts after she learned that the female slave (Iftikhār) she had purchased from him (for 17 dinars) had "defects" (ʿuyūb) which made her want to return her.

    Letter addressed to the Jewish community (probably Fustat) about an evildoer named ben Qayyuma and the troublesome things he did and said, and how the Nagid intervened with the government to put a stop to this. The story reminds the attempt of Sar Shalom Halevi to 'correct' inappropriate customs. he was also called 'The evil one', had a Messianic ambitions (e.g the name Qayyuma- a Messianic name) and the sultan tried to put an end to this.

[…] For a long time, I have been sitting in a corner with no access to this world, but as long as my daughter lived, she was always around me and cared for me. Now she has died, and her brothers and their sons have taken what she possessed. […] Shout at him and tell him that he should give me what is indispensable. Bundār, in Aden, to ʿAydhāb, mentioning Yīṣḥaq al-Nafūsī and Hiba Ibn al-Dabbāgh (‘the tanner’), referring to ships and dinars (Information from CUDL.) […] In addition, Yiṣḥaq al-Nafūsī lost a shipment of sorghum (durra), iron and textiles sent from Bharuch because the ship was somehow destroyed even as it was being loaded with cargo. This letter contains the only known mention in the Geniza of flax shipped to the Indian Ocean world and of sorghum being shipped west from India. Al-Tīz, the main medieval port of Makrān, is also mentioned in IB I, 14 (PGPID 5358).

[…] At this point the writer switches to beseeching the addressee to do his utmost to protect the interests of his own family and of the writer: "Go to the amir Sayf al-Dīn, and to the owner of the house, and meet with Sayyidnā al-Rayyis. Let him go and meet with all of the amirs and bring up these matters that interest you and me." […] A jug containing a thousand gold pieces was discovered there and, of course, confiscated by the government." Med Soc IV, 79. Goitein mentions this letter one other time: "As with government offices in general, there was no clear-cut and fixed division of duties among the various branches of the judiciary and the security force.

[…] A number of features indicate that the writer is a Greek-speaker, of which the most concrete is the epithet "the enameller" (l. 18), which is given in Greek. That this is not merely a nickname or a calqued expression is clear from the fact that it is given with the Greek definite article, and in the accusative case to suit the context.
