Al-Muhadhdhab Abū Saʿīd is also named in T-S NS J494. (2) An entry in Arabic containing several words in Judaeo-Arabic: the document of the dowry belonging to the daughter of Yūsuf Ibn Nufayʿ, the wife of al-Shaykh al-Sadīd b. al-Shaykh al-Rashīd the son of al-Ḥakīm al-Muhadhdhab. Then mentions Abū Saʿīd al-Muhadhdhab. The same person's name might be repeated on verso: [...] sadīd Bū Naṣr the son of al-Shaykh al-ḥakīm [...] al-ḥakīm R. Yosef the son of al-Shaykh al-Muhadhdhab. Yosef Ibn Nufayʿ also appears in T-S NS J357 (mid-13th-century).

Khan believes the vizier addressed in the petition is likely Riḍwān ibn Walakhshī because the titles correspond to the ones bestowed on him by al-Ḥāfiẓ in a document copied by al-Qalqashandī (Ṣubḥ VIII, 345): al-sayyid al-ajall al-afḍal amīr al-juyūsh sayf al-islām nāṣir al-ānām kāfil quḍāt al-muslimīn wa-hādī duʿāt al-muʾminīn. The title of Bahrām, attested in no. 5 of Stern’s corpus of Fāṭimid decrees, was al-sayyid al-ajall amīr al-juyūsh sayf al-islām nāṣir al-imām ghiyāṯ al-ānām. […] The titulature of the ephemeral Yānis was no doubt similar. Al-Maqrīzī (Ḵiṭāṭ II, 16) records his title as amīr al-juyūsh sayf al-islām.

Verso of the letter mentions the murder of Fakhr al-ʾUmara near Alexandria and also mentioning ʾAmīr al-Jūyūsh, which was the title of Badr al-Jamālī, the Armenian general and actual ruler of Egypt, 1074-1094 (see Cohen, Jewish Self-Government, pg. 61-65). Fakhr al-ʾUmara was a title of the viziers of the sword (arbāb al-sūyūf) and was third in the ranks of such viziers (see al-Qalqashandī, Ṣubḥ al-Āʿashā, pg. 104). […] He (Fakhr al-ʾUmara) is also referred to as Sulṭān al-ʿArab in some historical sources (see ʿImāduddīn, ʿŪyūn al-Akhbār, vol. 7, pg. 61-65).

Letter from Marduk b. Musa from Alexandria to Nahray b. Nissim, Fustat. In the handwriting of Avraham b. […] The letter mentions three members of the al-Tāhartī family who also travelled in a qārib, that of Ibn al-Manajjā, which left before that of al-Mufaḍḍal al-Hayfī but had not yet arrived. Four members of the al-Tāhartī family were making the journey from al-Mahdiyya to Alexandria in one summer and in ships in the same convoy of ships, which suggests some major, joint, coordinated ventures.

The official in question could be al-Amīr al-Muẓaffar Sayf al-Mulk Maʿadd l-Mulk Layth al-Dawla ʿAlī b. Ishāq b. al-Sallār, who was the governor of Alexandria during the time of al- Ẓāfir, hence this document could be dated to that period, i.e., post 545/1150. (See al-Maqrīzī, al-ittiʿāz, pg. 196).

A late Fatimid report The verso is probably annotations or reply to the report mentioning the caliphal ʿalāma: al-ʿalāmaal-sharīfa al-nabawiyya. The main content of the petition seems to be about an ʿimāra (wa-yaḥtāṭ al-ʿimāra), the sender then seems to mention something about the cost/accounts (wa-yākhudh al-mawla bi-dafʿ al-ḥisābāt). The document ends with the raʾy clause: "al-ʾārā al-ʿāliyya zādahā allahu sharafan wa-yanfaʿu bihi".

The addressee's titles (sayyid al-wuzarāʾ tāj al-aṣfiyāʾ qāḍī l-quḍāt dāʿī [l-duʿāt ʿalamal-majd] khalīl amīr al-muʾminīn wa-khāliṣatuhū) are attested by al-Maqrīzī as titles of the vizier al-Yāzūrī (r. 1050–58 CE) (see https://shamela.ws/book/176/580 and see al-Imad, The Fatimid Vizierate, 181–83). The sender confirms receipt of the addressee's letter dated 28 Rabīʿ I which arrived together with the letter from al-Amīr al-Muʾayyad ʿUddat al-Imām Muṣṭafā al-Mulk Muʿtazz al-Dawla regarding "the Damascene appointment" (al-tawẓīf al-dimashqī); the same phrase appears in Moss. II,230 (PGPID 35521). This al-Amīr al-Muʾayyad is Abū l-Mukarram Ḥaydara Muʿtazz al-Dawla b.

Verso: Two fragments of a Fatimid internal memorandum dating to the period of al-Ḥāfiẓ (r. 1130-1149). The preserved text mentions "Sadd al-jusūr al-sulṭāniyya", the operation of the royal dykes, the Gharbiyya province, and at least three state officials: al-Amīr al-Muwaffaq Sayf al-Mulk Iftikhār al-Dawla wa-Shujāʿuhā Abī Manṣūr Yāqūt, al-Amīr al-Muwaffaq al-Manṣūr al-Saʿīd Sharīf al-Umarāʾ, and Muʾayyad al-Dawla wa-ʿImāduhā.

Aḥmad al-Umrāʾī (the reading of the nisba tentative; could be al-Aʿrābī), "al-mutarjim bi-yadihi al-ruqʿa bi-smihi."
