Accounts in Judaeo-Arabic and Hebrew dealing with funds from a wide variety of Ottoman tax farm districts (iltizām) and their respective tax farmers (multazim). Dated in multiple entries, possibly as Rajab 1089 AH: אפ׳׳ט, with the aleph marking 1000 (1678 CE). […] The scribal hands are distinct enough from the state accounts that they may be of no relation and were probably recorded once the bifolio became scrap paper. The scribe who recorded these accounts likely held a post within the Ottoman fiscal administration of Egypt given the extent of their knowledge of tax farm funds throughout the entire province. Many members of the imperial administration in Egypt are mentioned as well as their corresponding rank/titles and respective tax farm districts: -Muḥ[ammad]/Maḥ[mūd] ibn Sīnān müteferriqa of the Diwān Miṣr (Governor's Court of Cairo), kāshif and multazim of the district Baʿd Jawāzī(?)

Despite the fame of his poems, ʿĀşık ʿÖmer’s birthdate and provenance are not entirely certain. Various scholars over the past century or so have estimated his birth year as either ca. 1029 AH/1620 CE or ca. 1061 AH/1651 CE, although the earlier date seems to be more widely accepted today (Karasoy and Yavuz 2015, 26, cf. 18, 800; Çavdar 2022, 502). […] In this document, the scribe, possibly Yaḥyā Çavuş himself, has reproduced what purport to be two of ʿĀşık ʿÖmer’s hece poems, both slight variations on the murabbaʿ, or ‘square’, poem comprising multiple quatrains ending in the same word; each example contains four such quatrains. In the first poem, every quatrain ends in the suffix –yuz (‘we are’). In the second poem, each quatrain ends in şimden gerü (‘ever after’ or ‘forevermore’).

At the end he mentions that he is not fluent in Arabic ("I am 'heavy of mouth' in the Arabic language"), which may be part of why he is writing a letter rather than dealing directly with the woman accusing him.

Further research is necessary to identify additional villages in the account subheadings, many or all of which are likely within 5-10 miles north/west of Qalyūb based on the previously identified locations. The second entry "לכ'מיים" in the upper row on the verso may be a mispelling of "الأخمين", a town ~2 miles west of Qalyub.
