He is lying sick in the house of Baqā' b. al-Muṣinn (at least in the daytime), also attended by Ibn al-ʿAṣṣār. […] He describes his nights and days twice. Ibn al-Muṣinn is also in distress because his little boy is also sick. […] Date: Probably early 13th century. ENA 3960.6–10 are five distinct but related Mamlūk-era legal documents in Arabic script, all dated 909 H (1503/04 CE), and involving the same people (e.g., Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad b. al-Khwājā Yūsuf b. al-Ḥājj ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Tājir al-Saffār(?) al-Ḥalabī) and the same witnesses (Aḥmad ʿAbd al-Qādir b. [...] and Ismāʿīl [...]). […] The genre of the sale document is an iqrār, i.e., an acknowledgment which is also a sub-genre of with Islamic legal manuals (shurūṭ al-fiqh).

Dating: 1140. The partners (Abū al-Barakāt and Abū al-Faraj) split losses evenly but grant the active partner (Abū al-Faraj) thirteen twenty-fourths of the profit. In fact, the document specifies two twenty-fourths of the profit allocated to Abū al-Faraj, the amount by which his share exceeded Abū al-Barakāt's, as "remuneration [for his trouble and work]". […] Abū al-Barakāt also declares that his partner’s testimony would be trusted, even though both partners are supposed to perform an accounting.

It seems that there is an urban food shortage or a case of grain hoarding and the writer is asking for a state intervention. The amir Munjid al-Dawla, Abū l-Ḥasan Mukhtār al-Mustanṣirī comes from a family of government officials, his father Amīn al-Dawla was also an amir and his grandson Maʾmūn al-Baṭāʾiḥī was a very influential government official and wazir of the Caliph al-Āmir Billah. According to the time period al-Maqrīzī situates Munjid al-Dawla in, he was an amir during the time of al-Mustanṣir Billah and the food shortage he is referring to could be the Shidda ʿUzma or some other famine that occurred during his reign. Registered by the Dīwān al-ʿAmal, but not by the Dīwān al-Ishrāf. Payment made under the supervision of three officials: (1) under the supervision of the auspicious, rightly guided qāḍī Thiqat al-Mulk Makīn al-Dawla wa-Amīnuhā, protégé of the Commander of the Faithful, Abū l-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Nahār; and (2) in the presence of Ṣafī al-Dawla ʿAbd al-Majīd b. Ḥasan on behalf of the Bureau of Supervision; and (3) (under) the tax accounting of the elder Sadīd al-Dawla Abū l-Faraj ʿAbd al-Masīḥ b.

The end of the recto refers to a caliphal ʿalāma that ratified this document/order. The verso contains a registration note mentioning the Dīwān al-Majlis al-Ḥāfiẓī al-Saʿīd and a written record of what had been allocated or expended by that dīwān (كتب بذكر ما بذل عليه ديوان المجلس). The mention of al-Majlis al-Ḥāfiẓī dates this document to the reign of al-Ḥāfiẓ (1132–49). The verso also has some scribal exercises, possibly from a learner copying the text of the original document.

Verso: Petition from ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq, who calls himself 'al-mamlūk al-Asʿadī al-Sharīf.' He asks the addressee to speak on his behalf to 'al-janāb al-bahāʾi.' The next few lines are damaged and difficult to read. The last surviving line reads, "rather, the intention is my attendance to the Majlis al-Ḥukm...." (Cited in Khan, ALAD, 398, n7, in reference to the usage of "al-majlis al-ḥukm" for court.

Literary text in Judaeo-Arabic in two columns about Alexander the Great. Narrating how when Alexander went east to wage war on Persia in a place called YQṬR(?) […] Dārā) sent him a letter commanding him to desist and to submit to him ("This is the text of the letter: From Darius, king of kings and master of the nations of the world, to Alexander the Macedonian. I know, O Alexander, your might, but God has raised me over the whole world and everybody is under my command and rule. . . ."). The text goes on to say that Alexander ignored the letter and invaded Persia, and there ensued a great battle.
