Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

Letter addressed to a dignitary named Aharon. It opens with a panegyric in Hebrew in which the addressee is called "the Rav" and "the Nagid of his generation and nation." […] The substance is unclear and the prose is elevated. "... may God help... which... all of our colleagues (aṣḥābnā) the great [and small]... good fortune, O my lord and master... the [no]blest of my treasures and the benefit of eternity... drape the curtain over (tusbil al-sitr ʿalā)... [indulge me] for any lapse (min al-zalal), for were it not for [...]. Presumably a letter of appeal for charity or other assistance.

Letter fragment on parchment. Probably a letter of appeal for assistance, written in a flowery style in a mixture of Hebrew and Judaeo-Arabic. Most of the preserved text consists of blessings for the community to which the letter is addressed, potentially Latakia in Syria (לאתקיאיה in l. 7, an unusual spelling but the letters are clear). […] It seems also to refer to "Alfonso"—presumably either Alfonso VI of León and Castile (r. 1065–1109) or Alfonso VII of León and Castile (r. 1126–57).

Letter from a certain Yosef, in Aden, to Yosef Ibn Shanju, in Fustat/Cairo. […] The sender is reporting on his business affairs in Aden, where he arrived from "Tabor" in Egypt (apparently there is a location that sounds like this between Fuwwa and Rashīd). The merchandise he was expecting to receive from India never arrived. He is planning a trip to Calicut. He mentions two Jewish traders in Aden, Moshe Hakan and David al-Kehlado, who are involved in business with him in Calicut and Surat.

Lists of contributions in Judaeo-Arabic related to the kosher meat tax known as "gabela". This fragment may have once been part of a larger register for communal tax collection in Cairo. The entries on the first folio's recto record the months Adar-Av ("Menaḥem") of the year 5595 AM. Although the ligature in the date ([55]95=קצה) is barely legible this reading is confirmed by the presence of Moshe Ben-Naʿīm's name, who appears widely in nineteenth-century documents.
