Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

Autograph order in the hand of Avraham Maimonides. Al-Makīn (=Abū l-Majd?) is to give 3 dirhams to the relative of the Andalusī rabbi ("Toledan" is crossed out) and 2 dirhams to the old Persian man. This was written three weeks prior to T-S K25.240.20, which is also for the relative of the Toledan rabbi ("Toledan" was not crossed out there). T-S K25.240 consists of small written orders, partly in Hebrew and partly in Arabic script, for monthly payments, made out of the rent-revenue from the pious foundation (waqf) 'Compound of the Poor' or from the pious foundation made by the physician al-Muhadhdhab. All dated orders are from spring and summer, 1218.

Decree, or rather record of the issuing of a decree/rescript (tawqīʿ) from the chancery of al-Ḥāfiẓ, as a response to a petition (ruqʿa) sent by the judge Sanāʾ al-Mulk ʿAbdallāh b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Abī Kāmil regarding restoring the funds, oil and glass that used to be bestowed upon his mosque out of the warehouse in Fusṭāṭ. […] It contains a reproduction of the wording of the authorizing minute (tawqīʿ) introduced by the words mā mithāluhu, as is the case in T-S Ar. 40.41 [ALAD no. 116]. (Information from Khan, ALAD, doc. 118, and from CUDL) Significant from a material point of view because it shows evidence of once having been part of a bifolio, so suggests that such records were kept in quires or folders of some sort—i.e., evidence of archives.

Debt settlement between spouses in which ʿAbd al-Raḥīm b. David ha-Ḥazan acknowledges a debt of 47 ashrafī jadīd to his wife Sitt al-Ahl bt. […] The record has a section that is crossed out, stating that this sum is specified in Sitt al-Ahl's ketubba. The terms of repayment are uncommon, with ʿAbd al-Raḥīm committing to repay the sum on a daily basis with 1 niṣf fiḍḍa/day. Given that the couple is not seeking a divorce, the potential repayment of Sitt al-Ahl's dowry raises the question of whether her husband had misused it in some way (but the exact terms of this debt settlement remain unclear given how much is crossed out).

Dated: 2 Elul 5329 AM (1569 CE), the same day as the previous entry which constitutes a brief record of the marriage between Khaṣṣ bt. ʿAbd al-Jaffār al-Fūlādī, a minor, and the groom Hārūn b. Shemuʾel al-Fūlādī. This subsequent record consists of the conditions for the couple's marriage: the groom will not wed a second wife for at least ten years and there are limits on his travel and residency outside his father's house for the same timespan. This condition is rare enough that it points to the possibility the groom was also a minor but not listed as such. For the bride's legal status as a minor (קאצר), see the previous entry in the court register.
