Primary use (probably): Business accounts in the hand of Avraham Ibn Yijū. Concerning transactions conducted in Jurbattan in betel nut, cardamom, coins, and copper and lead. Listing travel provisions (zād) including wheat, lārī rice, local rice, oil, honey, and clarified butter. Provides values both in the Egyptian standard (mithqāls) and the local standard ("in the weight of Jurbattan"). The accounts conclude, "I gave Ashū 15 malikīs and 4 mithqāls." This is only the second known appearance of Ashū by name, and it shows that Goitein and Friedman were correct to conclude that she is the one referred to as "your house" in T-S Misc.25.103 (PGPID 4738). It is notable that Ibn Yijū continued to call her Ashū rather than the Hebrew name Berakha she took upon her manumission/conversion in 1132 (IOM D 55.10 (PGPID 5501)). Dating: Ibn Yijū and his family were in Jurbattan as of 1147 based on T-S Misc.25.103. He had left India for Aden by 1149, providing a terminus ante quem. If the mention of ʿAbd Allāh in l. 2 refers to Ibn Yijū's associate the nākhudā Abū ʿAbd Allāh who died in 1146, then these accounts would date to 1146 or earlier. It is puzzling that Ibn Yijū seems to have written these brief accounts on a very large piece of paper and not to have reused the copious blank space until ~1151. But it is not implausible, given that he often reused scrap paper later for calendars and/or accounts years later. Identified by Alan Elbaum.
