الوصف

Recto: Legal document written by Yosef Shemuʾel b. Saʿadya ha-Levi, detailing the settlement of the estate (tarika) of the late perfumer (ʿaṭṭār) Avraham b. Abū l-Karam known as Abū Tūta. The head of the bureau of estates (ṣāḥib dīwān al-mawārīth) sequestered the estate, so the Jewish elders had to approach the qāḍī overseeing the bureau (mutawallī dīwān al-mawārīth; this may be the same person as the sāḥib al-dīwān) and pay 30 dinars out of its value to "lift the hand of the dīwān from it." Other transactions from the proceeds of the sale: - 30 dinars less 1/6 to Ibn Amīn al-Dawla the ṣāḥib of the dār al-wakāla for a debt owed to him by the deceased - 23 dinars to Munā the freedwoman the wife of Abū l-Faraj Ibn al-Tinnīsī al-Parnas - 5 dinars less 1 qirat for wheat for the widow and daughter of the deceased - 4 dinars for his cousin (ibn ʿamm) and for burial expenses - the remaining 83 dinars were deposited with the prominent merchant Abū ʿImrān Moshe b. Ḥalfon ha-Kohen (Tifʾeret ha-Kohanim Ḥemdat ha-Sarim Neʾeman ha-Soḥarim ʿAyn ha-ʿEda, known from other documents as a member of the Ibn Ghulayb family and often called simply Moshe ha-Kohen Ibn Ghulayb) for safekeeping for the heirs of the deceased. Verso: Two addenda written by Shemuʾel b. Saʿadya ha-Levi. The first states that 1/2 + 1/8 dinar were taken from the 83 (this sentence is followed by the names Shemuʾel and Menashshe) and that an additional 2 1/2 dinars were taken out for maintenance (mezonot), for a total of 3 dinars. The second states that the entire 83 dinars were collected from Abū ʿImrān Tifʾeret ha-Kohanim and that he is released from any responsibility over it.
