- By the name of our Creator. And they built and prospered.
- On the fourth day (of the week), in the month of Nisan, fourteen days therein, the sixth year of the sabbatical cycle, which is y[ear f]our thousand,
- eight hundred and forty-three A.M., in the town of Damsīs, situated on the Nile river: Eli b. Aaron (whose) s(oul is at) r(est) \\the kohen// [declared]
- voluntarily, willingly, and of his own choice, not coerced, not distressed, not enticed, nor intoxicated to take this lady
- Ḥisān, the virgin and bride, daughter of m(aster) Jacob the kohen (whose) s(oul is at) r(est)—to esteem honor, nourish, provide for, and clothe [he]r, in the manner of Jewish
- men, who nourish, provide for, and clothe their wives, the daughters of Israel, in cleanness and purity. Similarly responded Ḥisān, the virgin and bride,
- daughter of m(aster) Jacob, the kohen, who is at rest, that she would esteem, honor and attend him, in the manner of modest women, who esteem, honor, serve and attend
- their husbands, the sons of Israel, in purity and sanctity. And he effected her qiddushin with a cup of wine and a silver ring. And they fixed the mohar between them at thirty [dinars],
- comprised of ten dinars that are advanced and twenty full dinars, in royal coinage, that are delayed—after he had given her twenty-five [the mohar]
- of virgins, in silver zuz, in agreement with what the sages of Israel had expressed: "Not, less than two hundred is given for a virgin and one hundred for a widow." And the t[wo] sides
- agreed on this mohar. These are what she brought, in with her with her with the assistance of the Merciful: a pair of gold earrings–three dinars,
- a pair of bangles–three dinars, a pair of bracelets–two dinars, a white wimple–two dinars, two linen shirts–two dinars,
- a shawl–one and a quarter dinars, a woman’s scarf and an Ashkelon headdress–one dinar, a mat–one dinar, seven c[ushions?]–one dinar, two skullcaps–
- one dinar, a sleeping mat–one dinar, a pair of pants–one half dinar and necessities–one fourth dinar. The total of all [which] she brought in: [nine-]teen
- dinars. They will be for her and her son after her. This girl is of age and in her own jurisdiction. This girl, the bride, appointed Shela, the kohen, b. R.
- Jacob, the kohen who is at rest, as her agent and to care for her affair, by the word of two witnesses who were acquainted with her. And [thes]e are their names: Aaron,
- the elder, b. R. Barukh, (who) r(ests in) E(den), and Sason b. Eleazar, of Aleppo, r(emembered) for (good). Eli, the groom, \\the kohen// b. Aaron, (whose) s(oul is at) r(est), and Ḥisān, the virgin, the bride, daughter of Jacob, [the] kohen, agreed
- to this writ and to its contents, after it had been read to them from beginning to end. And this writ is sound, firm, trustworthy, and verified
- Whether according to the statutes of our lords, the sages, or according to the laws of the kingdoms. And we performed with them a complete qinyan with a fit implement. IN GOOD ORDER.
