Thus says the Lord: Do justice and deeds of charity, for my salvation is near to come and my charity to be revealed (Isaiah 56:1).
Blessed are those who do justice and deeds of charity at all times (Psalms 106:3).
I inform the holy congregation—may God enhance its splendor—that I am a woman who was taken captive in the land of Israel. I arrived here this week from Sunbāṭ “naked,” with no blanket and no sleeping carpet. With me is a little boy and I have no means of sustenance. I beseech now God the exalted and beseech the congregation—may you be blessed—to do with me what is proper to be done with any wayfarer. May the Holy One, blessed be He, repay you many times and be your help so that you shall never be driven from your homes. And may He bring the redeemer in your days. Amen.
