Letter from Abū Zikrī b. Sulaymān, probably in Wanā (in the Fayyūm, mentioned verso, l. 5), to [...] b. Yūsuf, likely in Fustat. He might be writing instead from Asyūṭ (recto, l.13 and verso, ll. 22,33), though these mentions seem to be in the context of recent travel from and upcoming travel to Asyūṭ. The letter is written on a long and narrow rotulus, in Arabic script with a single word in Hebrew script (the Hebrew part of the name of Abū l-Ḥasan al-Hod, likely the same man who appears in ENA 4011.62 (PGPID 775), dated by Gil to the early 13th century and by Goitein to the late 12th century). The bulk of the letter involves transactions and correspondence involving tax farming (ḍamān) and silk. The sender reports that he has received letters from Abū l-Ḥasan al-Hod and from Nissim Ibn Qudayra (the same family name appears in T-S NS 226.124 and T-S AS 168.221). He reports encountering traders in Asyūṭ who had 80 raṭls of silk, some dyed and some raw, but he was unable to obtain any of it. He plans to spend Shabbat in Būsh and then go up the Nile, taking with him Makhlūf or somebody else. Twice mentions the term "naqāḍāt" (recto, l. 33 and verso, l. 14) in the context of silk. Mentions someone called Mufaḍḍal b. Salāma. Abū l-Ḥasan is to meet with Yūsuf al-Ṭawwāf in Cairo, who owes something (two dinars?) to the sender. He should obtain a letter from him which should be forwarded to the sender in Wanā. Mentions a certain Faḍāʾil, and possibly the term ṣināʿa or al-ṣināʿatayn. Concludes with greetings to various people including Abū l-Rabīʿ Sulaymān, Sitt al-Yumn, and others. Needs further examination.
