Verso: Draft of a petition in Arabic script, addressed to a lower official. The petitioners raise a dispute regarding a synagogue (kanīsa). They are barred from entering and using it and ask that a decree for the same be issued from the al-majlis al-karīm. Needs examination.

    1. المماليك يقبلو الارض {وهو} ينهوا ان لهم بالمحلة كنيسة خرابة وهي تجمع شملهم

    2. بالصلاة فيها والمماليك [[يمنعون]] //خائفين// من الدخول اليها لكونها ول…

    3. وان [[تمادا الحال الى حد وكان]] لما تصوروا الى المقام العالي

    4. ومنع لهم عمارة الكنيسة المذكورة  [[المماليك يقبلو الارض]] وما الحكم للمماليك

    5. التصرف في عمارة الا بعد توقيع المجلس الكريم لا زال نافذا

    6. والمماليك يسلون الانعام عليهم بخروج الامر العالي الى القاضي السعيد

    7. يعقوب شاهدين والهند(؟)… المكان عمارته انعاما عليهم

  1. The slaves kiss the ground and report that they have a dilapidated synagogue in al-Maḥalla which unites them
  2. in prayer. However, the slaves are [[ being denied]] //afraid of// entering it because it is collapsing.
  3. And if [[this persisted to the extent that]] they would have not approached hi eminence
  4. They have also been prevented from renovating this synagogue. [[the slaves kiss the ground]]
  5. The slaves do not have any rights to exercise over this property except with a decree, from the his eminence, which is forever binding. [or - “they weren't judged to possess the right to engage in rebuilding until (they obtain) a rescript from the his eminence, may he remain powerful"
  6. The slaves ask that benefaction be extended upon them by issuing an order to the qāḍī
  7. ……….restoration of their property as a benefaction
  8. [and] kindness upon.
