תיאור

Recto: Iqrār, in Arabic script. Dated: Monday 17 Muḥarram 1242 H (1826 CE). The riverboat captain al-rayyis Ismaʿīl Surūr al-Jawīsh receives a payment of 7500 niṣf fiḍḍa (medin) for delivering a shipment of 150 ardabb of rice from Rashīd to the "commercial warehouse for official rice fodder" located in Cairo's northern Nile port of Būlāq. The payment is rendered by the ṣarrāf Mūsa Naʿīm, who is an employee of the state monopoly administration in rice production/sales. The contract is signed by two witnesses and the scribe: ʿAlī Sirḥān al-Nūrī(?), Ḥusnī al-ʿAjala al-D___(?), and Muḥammad al-Fanās. Verso: Brief an order of payment/exchange that seems to be unrelated to the recto transaction because the boat captain mentioned is instead, al-rayyis Ibrahīm. The verso document is dated in the same month/year but it is unclear if it preceded the recto because the exact day has been lost to damage. The official Mūsa mentioned on the verso is likely Mūsa Naʿīm. MCD.
