Letter from Yiṣḥaq de Curiel. In Ladino and western Arabic numerals. Dating: early 19th century. Opens with a list of items received (ריסיוי...), including a pair of rimonim (for a Torah scroll), a yad (פונטירו), a hookah (נארגילי), a knife (קוגֿיאו), three small spoons (קוגֿאראס קטנים), a large spoon (קוגארה גדולה), two forks (פירוניס < Greek πιρούνι), a copper bucket (באקראגֿ < Turkish bakraç), four zarfs (cup holders) (זארפיס), and a tray (סינייא), altogether 17 pieces for 544 "dramas" (דראמאס). It's not immediately clear if this refers to their price or to their weight; likely the latter, since the value is later specified as approximately 100 reals. He continues, "together with the wooden case of the knife, and with the selling of this silverware, I have to give you 100 reals for the widow of Shelomo b. Ṣahal (also mentioned as deceased in JRL SERIES A 892 (PGPID 28358) in 1802 CE), or else a valid document for her to possess." So the 17 items were likely from the late Shelomo's estate, and de Curiel is tasked with selling them in order to provide the widow her ketubba payment. On verso there are jottings of sums.
