Fragment of a letter in Judaeo-Arabic. Defending a communal leader against a litany of accusations against him. One of them has to do with orphans and widows; then mentions the heqdesh; then the "elders of the Jews" (shuyūkh al-yahūd); then a claim that he does something with the governors (wulāt) and jurisprudents (fuqahāʾ) and professional witnesses (shuhūd), which the writer contradicts, stating that this person in fact serves these Muslim state and judicial officials "for the interests of the Jews out of his nobility." The last claim preserved has to do with women and purity. Needs further examination.
