Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

Ipisi has apparently informed Ḥusayn that the "sharīf" was not present, and Ḥusayn says he will talk to the man when he arrives. "Sharīf" is a title meaning "noble one," and might refer to someone of illustrious descent or high social status, possibly a qāḍī. Ḥusayn informs Uruwī that his goods are in a place (i.e., likely a property) belonging to his brother Lāmiʿ. Ḥusayn reports that people from "the southern land" (bilād al-qibliyya) have been asking for help because of the actions of the lieutenant (al-khalīfa), the Master of the Shipmasts (ṣāhib al-suwār), and a deputy (nāʾib) of the Qūsa, a clan in Upper Egypt.
