Description

India Book (IB) I, 31a. Legal document: testimony about the will of Yosef Lebdi. This fragment, written in the hand of Hillel b. Eli (fl. 1066-1108 CE), records that before leaving for his last journey, Lebdi made the will. Friedman identifies the scribe as Ḥalfon b. Menashshe (fl. 1100-1138) and dates the fragment to the beginning of the 12th century. The inferred date range of 1066-1138 CE reflects the possibility that Hillel b. Eli or Ḥalfon b. Menashshe recorded the document.
