Description
A first-person narrative or historical account, or possibly a copy of a letter. Dating: likely 12th or 13th century. The speaker identifies himself as a wālī (as he refers to receiving an order "ilayya wa-ilā ghayrī min al-wulāh") apparently of somewhere near Baalbek. Mentions receiving an order from the sultan to extend hospitality, which is a great burden. Mentions Jūsiya. Mentions the arrival of one of the slaves/men (ghilmān) of the amīr and negotiations that ensued. Refers to Ibn Ṣalaḥ, "who was the ruler of Aleppo and surrendered it and the citadel. . . ." The identity of this Ibn Ṣalaḥ is not clear. It is also possible to read Abū Salaḥ, and if an alif is missing, Ibn Ṣāliḥ or Ibn Ṣalāḥ (al-Dīn? i.e., al-Ẓāhir Ghāzī?). Needs further examination.
