Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

The verso has detailed heading explaining that the entries represent income from the Egyptian city of Manfalut on the Nile. The entries again list various individuals and collective groups (בני). One cryptic entry might be based on the word for crocodile in Arabic תמסחייא" (تمساح)" but its exact meaning is unclear.

[…] The same Tiqva appeared in another document relating to his sister's engagement — Bodl. MS heb. d 66/46 (PGPID 6461) from the year 1098/99 CE — one year earlier than our document. It is not clear if the same engagement is intended. Signed by the teacher Yiṣḥaq b.

An amount of 56.5 dinars was entrusted to Shemuel and his son, who stood security with their own possessions (in Minyat Zifta Jawād(?))[…] The document itself is dated 147[5] Seleucid, which is 1164 CE, under the authority of the Head of the Jews the Gaon Netanel ha-Levi. Following the end of the document (after Mevorakh's elaborate signature in ENA 4011.23), there are multiple addenda in which the orphan confirms sums received. […] (Information in part from Mediterranean Society, III, 296, 492.) NB: Goitein refers to ENA 4011.23 as ENA 4011.22. The second line of the heading mentions a "granada Ingleza" (גראנאדה אינגליזה) that will be "delivered in Livorno to Se[nyor] Yaʿacov Abastado" (granada Ingleza a entregaren Liorne). In this context it seems unlikely that "granada" meant "English pomegranate" or "English hand grenade[!]"[…] Line 9 clearly referencess a shipping vessel in the entry "por nolo di djerma." The latter term "djerma" refers to a class of "small flat-boats that allowed the transport of cargo... to the mouth of the Nile" before goods were transferred onto bigger sea-borne vessels.

Dated: Tishrei through Kislev 1751 Seleucid, which corresponds to the last months of 1439 CE. Includes entries on divorces, marriages, deaths. Also an curious entry documenting that there were rumors about the daughter of ʿAbd al-Laṭīf b. […] I don't want to [go to] the religion of the Muslims." The entry is cryptic and these readings are tentative. Another entry mentions the ḥakīm ʿAbd al-Karīm, the head of the court (Av Beit Din).

Engagement deed and trousseau list dated 25 June 1789 CE (1 Tammuz 5549 AM) between Yaʿaqov Rosano b. […] Shabbetay Sakāḥ(?) (סכאח). The end of the trousseau list mentions that Miryam's grandmother Jamīla is contributing 30 medin toward her granddaughter's maintenance (מזונות). The engagement deed lists a few jewelry items, probably a partial list given the wide array of clothing items and home goods listed, such as: embroidered kerchiefs, an embroidered silk bed canopy, cushions, a marble mortar, a small mirror, among many other entries.
