[…] But he will wait in Alexandria until he learns what his family thinks of this plan, and he will follow their counsel. The end of the letter has the curious line, "Abū Yaḥyā is well, in complete health, and aṣḥābunā are in complete health, no one died except Abū l-Khayr b. […] Information from Gil, Kingdom, Vol. 4, #661. See also ENA 2738.34, a very similar letter which Yaʿaqov wrote at the same time and addressed to his sister.

In several places in this letter, the author suggests somewhat perversely that the Iraqis have gone over to the Ananites, who should have been (and were once) their common enemy (fol.7r:17-18, 8v:7); and he comes close to suggesting a permanent schism between Palestinians and Iraqis (fol.8r:2-3, 8v:8; Stern notes that the meaning of these passages, however, needs a more nuanced evaluation). As in ben Meir’s First Letter, the author still lays most of the blame on Saadya (fol.7r:6-8, 8r:14-16, 8v:17-18), as if to give the Iraqis a way out of their entrenched position. The engagement is set to last for three years leading up to the wedding. […] The deceased man Yisraʾel ha-Kohen likely had an unlisted or deceased daughter, because his son-in-law Natan Ben-Efrayim is mentioned as part of the ketubba settlement/payout proceedings. (#33) Lower lines of a dowry list, possibly from the prior document entry on the left side of bifolium 4v. The contents are extensive and include a wide variety of clothing, bedding, and extravagant gold/silver jewelry adorned with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and coral. (#34) Upper lines of a three-year rental agreement whose lower lines appear on the right side of bifolium 5r.

The Mongols entered the narrator's city on Simḥat Torah and plundered it, taking captive al-Nasi al-Fakhr, his wife Sitt al-Ruʾasāʾ, his brothers, his sister, and his 2-year-old son. […] is describing his difficult economic circumstances wherever he has ended up (Syria? Bilbays? Fustat?). Everything that al-Nasi al-Fakhr had, clothing or otherwise, has been lost.
