Cheat sheet:

  • If you're looking for a word with one missing letter, use a period. Two missing letters, use two periods or {2}. Increase the number in the curly brackets to increase the number of characters, or insert a range with a comma in between, ex. {0,5}.
  • If you don't know how many characters are missing, use .*.
  • If you know which characters you want, use square brackets to find multiple spellings, ex. [יו] for yud or vav.

[…] Seems to primarily deal with Mecca (r5, r18, r25, v6–7, v15), including multiple allusions to unjust and/or irreligious rulers. May also mention the city of Medina (r18) in a section where it seems that both Medina and Mecca are personified (r18: فلما سمعت المدينة المحروسة, r24–25: فلما سمعت مكة). […] There is a later Rangstreit between Mecca and Medina in BNF MS Arabe 1667, 190v-200v, in which the dispute is mediated by Sayf al-Dīn Yalbughā (d. 1366). Merits further examination.

Ḥananʾel, probably in the town of al-Ṣaffayn. Dealing with various business transactions. There was also a market named al-Ṣaffayn in Fustat; in this case the address would likely have been written "to Fustat, to al-Ṣaffayn," but there are some examples of addresses that list only the name of a location within a city, e.g., T-S 6J4.20 (PGPID 17099). Letter from a woman to her brother Ḥusayn, the ghulām of Rashīd al-Dawla. In Arabic script. The sender may be complaining about the character of a woman (al-qubḥ alladhī kāna khulquhā), but this is unclear, or khalfahā. She mentions something happening to an ass (al-ḥimāra), perhaps it perished, and hence she no longer has an animal (mā lī bahīma). Mentions a period of time and rent. On verso there are also jottings in Judaeo-Arabic. Needs further examination.

A late letter from a mother to her son Yosef b. Ghunaym (may appear also in T-S 28.10). Among other news she informs him that his aunt's daughter (?) was abandoned by her husband who might went to Alexandria. Part of the address, in Hebrew, is preserved on verso: the location of the addressee is not known, and he might be in Rashid or other place in Egypt. Israel is also mentioned but it is unclear if the letter was sent from there.
