Wife of Yosef Ben Yijū
Description / Bio
The wife, name as yet unknown, of the teacher and cantor Yosef Ben Yijū, with whom she had three children. The family left their home in Tunisia after the Sicilian conquest in 1148 and lived in Mazara, Sicily for some four or five years. After the political situation in Mazara became hostile to non-Christians, she followed her two elder sons to Egypt. In her later years, she lived with her youngest son, Shemuʾel, in Fustat.
