al-Muwaffaq
Description / Bio
Addressed by the titles al-Muwaffaq ('the Successful'), al-Amīn (al-Dawla) ('Trustee (of the Government)'), and al-Saʿīd ('the Auspicious'). He might have been a dignitary, such as a Jewish representative of merchants. Friedman suggests that this may in fact be Saladin's physician and Maimonides' associate, Hibat Allah Ibn Jumayʿ, who was commonly known as "shaykh al-Muwaffaq" (India Book, p 514 n4 and p 519).
