Moshe Reʾuven
Description / Bio
Scribe whose autographed legal documents from Cairo are only extant from the 1570s and 1620s. A legal scribe by this name, possibly the same person, is referenced indirectly in: T-S 13J25.22, ll. 9, 27 (c. 1656 CE) and BL OR 5542.1, l. 27 (c. 1677). Both of these latter documents deal with real estate transactions and therefore cite a chain of deeds from previous property owners, three of which list a "Moshe Reʾuven" as scribe in the following years: 1642, 1643, and 1653 CE. If these three latter deeds were penned by the same person, then Moshe Reʾuven had an exceptionally long scribal career of at least 76 years.
