- [In the name of the Compassionate]
- [“Behold, God is] my s[alvation,” e]tc.
- “[Thus] says the Lord: [Do] justice and deeds of charity,” etc. (Isaiah 56:1).
- The noble [commun]ity in Fustat,
- may their Rock [ble]ss them and their [Cre]ator help them, a(men) n(esah) s(ela),
- knows that the duty of charity brings
- a great reward in His, the ex(alted’s), presence. This is especially so when the person is poor and old
- [and] embarrassed, such as the bearer, Mr. Moshe, (may he have a) g(ood) e(nd). It is i[n]
- your beneficent nature to help him
- [. . . and] lacking everything. So open [your hands] wide in
- [giving to him . . .] mercy [of God] and the
- mercy of Israel, and do not turn him away empty-handed
- [and “Let not the] downtrodden [turn] away disappointed” (Psalm 74:21). You, O vineyard of the Lord of hosts,
- [are d]oers of charitable acts and good deeds, so keep that
- [up]. May God the ex(alted) be your succor and increase your
- [s]ustenance, and never separate you from your homeland.
- And peace.
