תיאור

Letter from Aharon ha-Levi, Yosef ha-Borsaqī ("the tanner") to Abu'l-Ma'ali, ca. 1120. A certificate regarding the Estate of the Jerusalemites. The bearer of the letter informs Abu'l-Ma'ali that he is entitled to a share in the revenues of the houses "of the Jerusalemites." Since the man is in great distress, an advance is requested. The writer asks that a note be delivered to Shelomo ha-Melammed, regarding the sum that Abu'l-Ma'ali considers proper. (Information from Gil, Documents, pp. 244 #44) | Court record, written by Hillel b. Eli, regarding a property in Qasr al-Sham'. One of the parties is a convert to Islam.

  1. I inform our Master al-Shaykh 

  2. Abūʾl-Maʿālī, may God preserve him, that this 

  3. our Master Aaron ha-Levi ha-Zāqēn the son of our Master Joseph 

  4. ha-Levi ha-Bursiqī, of blessed memory, is heavy-laden 

  5. in the compound singled out for Jerusalem, 

  6. may it be reconstructed soon in our times and in the times 

  7. (7-8) of His entire people of Israel. And that he is one of the first Jerusalemites, there being no doubt nor suspicion concerning him.

  9. He is requesting (his due) from (the man) who (is in charge) of the allocations of the compounds  

  10. (10-11) of the Jerusalemites, since he is in a great distress. He declares that if he

  12. received his share now 

  13. (13-14) he would disengage himself with it (of his distress) and at the time of the (regular) distribution he would not request anything. So please write 

  14.  

  15. a note to R. Solomon ha-Melammēd 

  16. regarding (the sum) that you consider proper.
