Communal letter(s) written in a literary format probably in the hand of Natan b. Shemuel he-Ḥaver. Fragmentary (missing the ends of the lines on recto and the beginnings of the lines on verso). Possibly instructions from the communal leadership in Fustat to a community in the Rīf. Recto refers to two pesiqas (האתין אלפסיקתין); paying a sum to a man to support himself; a cantor; his wage; something endowed as a waqf (wa-innahā mawqūfa. . .). On verso it then refers to a government decree (manshūr karīm) and rescripts (tawqīʿāt kirām) apparently regarding the appointing of a communal head (li-taqdimatihī ʿalaykum). This is dated Shevaṭ 1451 Seleucid = December 1139 / January 1140 CE along with the location (Ṣoʿan = Fustat). The next text block begins "to our master the exilarch. . . of the Negidut" (ilā sayyidinā rosh galuyot. . . ha-negidut) and is dated Iyyar 1453 Seleucid = April/May 1142 CE. Merits further examination.
