Deed of purchase of a house in Jerusalem, from the Muslim court of Jerusalem. The buyer is Yūsf b. ʿAbd al-Ghaffār b. ʿAbd al-Karīm, the Qaraite Jew, on behalf of his brother, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. This ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz is known from other contemporaneous documents, and Jerusalem Sijil records, as the person in charge of Qaraite endowments in Jerusalem from the 1560s onwards (see PGPID 40644). His son took the same position towards the end of the century. The sellers are Ibrāhīm b. Farjallah, the Qaraite Jew, the Jewller (al-Ṣāʾigh), and ʿAbd al-Karīm b. Mūsā b. ʿAbd al-Latīf, the Qaraite Jew, the physician (al-ṭabīb). Both are known from mid-sixteenth century records in the Sijil of the Jerusalem Muslim court as the persons in charge of Qaraite endowments in Jerusalem. The property purchased is described as located in Jerusalem (al-Quds al-Sharīf), in the Qaraite neighborhood (bi-maḥalat al-qarāʾīn). It is located above two other properties - its northern part is above the house of Ibn Zaytūn al-Yahūdī, and its southern part is above the bakery known as the bakery of the Jews (furn al-yahūd). These are also its boundaries from the south and north, and in those sides are the two gates of the propery. From east and west are publich roads. This same property is described as a Qaraite endowment in a Jerusalem Muslim court deed from 1563 CE (PGPID 40644). In another deed, from 1583, the same property is also described as endowed by ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. ʿAbd al-Ghaffār already in 1559 CE (PGPID 40646). This means that the property puchased in 1554 as described in the deed at hand, was endowed 5 years later. The price paid is 60 gold Sultānīyya. On the verso side in a confirmation of the deed, from 14 Rajab 961 AH (15.6.1554 CE). Also on verso, top margin, a diagonal archival note in Judeo-Arabic "deed of the second story, Jerusalem" (ḥujjat ṭabāq al-quds, חגה טבאק אלקדס ).
