תיאור

Petition, draft, from an ex-government servant asking for work, presumably from a government official. From the period of the Fatimid caliph al-Ḥākim (996–1021) or possibly earlier. Recto, from later reuse: tax receipt in the hand of Mikhaʾil b. ʿAbd al-Masīḥ (see separate entry).

  2. [بسم الله ا]لرحمن الرحيم

  3. [عبدها ومملوكها ينهـ]ـي الى جلالها حرس الله عزها وضاعف سعدتها

  4. [وكبت حسادها وضعفها] وينهي انه من جملة خدامه وممن شمله

  5. [رحمتها ورافتها و]ليس لعبدها احد يتشفع به

  6. [   ] وحسن نظره فيه وهو يسل

  7. [من فضلها ونعمتها] خدمة يسـ[ـتعين]بها على عائلته

  2. [In the name of God, t]he merciful, the compassionate.
  3. [His slave and servant informs] his loftiness, may God preserve his strength and double his good fortune
  4. [and vanquish his enviers and enemies] and informs (him) that he is among his servants (i.e., a government official) and among those who are encompassed by
  5. [his mercy and compassion]. His slave has no one to intercede on his behalf
  6. […] and his good consideration of (the matter). He asks
  7. [for his generosity and benefaction] (in granting him) a (position in) government service … asks … (so that) his family (may) …
