תיאור

Accounts in Judaeo-Arabic and Hebrew alphanumerals. A variety of the entries list quantities of unnamed male and female enslaved people (עבד עביד גארייה). Dated in the upper left corner of the verso: Jumād[a] II 965 AH (1558 CE). The account entries also mention a variety of names in connection with the enslaved people, some bearing Ottoman titles/ranks: ʿOṭmān [sic] al-Maḥlāwī, Manṣūr al-Shāmī, Sinān Raʾīs, Maḥ[mūd]/Muḥ[ammad] Odabā[şa], Bā..(?) Jalabī (Çelebi), Mūsa Jalabī, Maḥ[mūd]/Meḥ[med] Bāsha. Although the accounts on the verso date to 1558 CE, it is worth noting that the Ottoman governor of Egypt between 1553–1556 CE was Dukakinzade Meḥ[med] Pasha. MCD.
