- “Behold, God is my salvation,” etc.
- The noble community
- in Fustat, may their Rock bless them, a(men) f(orever) s(ela), knows that
- the duty of charity brings a great reward in His,
- the ex(alted’s), pr[esence]. This is especially so when the person is poor and embarrassed and old,
- such as the bearer, Yeshuʿa, (may he have a) g(ood) e(nd).
- It is in your beneficent nature to help
- and assist him because he wishes to travel
- to his city, Jerusalem, the Holy City, may it be rebuilt and est(ablished),
- for his children are waiting for him. Therefore, take up a collection
- for him in the two congregations and open your hands wide
- in giving to him, for this is the time for virtuous generosity. “Let not
- the downtrodden turn away disappointed” (Psalm 74:21). May God the ex(alted) be your
- succor, make your habitations prosper, grant long life to your children,
- and increase your sustenance. And peace.
