Brief official letter, or report in Arabic script. Late/ With a stamped seal in the margin next to the name of the issuer/sender (Muṣṭafā Agha/Ağa). Dated: 10 Rajab 997 H = 25 May 1589 CE. The letter is written on behalf of 'all the qubbāḍ (tax collectors)' in the district of Shubrā, likely Shubra Damsīs, though there is also a district named Shubra in Cairo, reporting on an issue concerning heads of livestock. The 'qubbāḍ', are not an extensively attested category in sources, but from late Mamlūk sources like Ibn Dawādārī and Ibn Iyās, it can be ascertained that they acted in their capacities as custom tax collectors.
