1. In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
2. At the Sharīʿa court in [the po]rt of Alexandria,
3. ]In the presence of our master, the Shamsī judge, Shams al-Dīn[…]
4. May his rulings be exalted are his rulings and […], the raʾīs Muḥammad […] acknowledged
5. ]al-Rashīdī, the lawful acknowledgement, voluntarily, while in a state in which his [legal capacity] is valid,
6. ]a lawful acknowledgement to the muʿallim Yehuda b. Abraham Castro, son of Yosef b. […]
7. ]of delivering to him an amount of [silver ha]lves of the Sulaymānī coinage,
8. ]being eight hundred and twenty halves, amounting to him thereby in total
9. ]and the right of disposal in that, and that this constitutes a statement of his liability,
10. ]over the share of the ra’īs Muḥammad, by right of the quarter-share, in the ship (?) al-Ghullayn (?)[
11. ]in the year nine hundred and fifty-five, and eight hundred halves and nine[
12.  ]The muʿallim Isḥāq b. Isrāʾīl b. Yaḥyā, the Jew, attests[…]
13. ]to him with that lawful attestation. And they mutually attested also that the a[mount]
14.  ]the sum of which is one thousand halves, one hundred and eighty-one halves, and[
15.  ]sixty halves; and that the last thing the raʾīs Muḥammad leased[
16.  ]was the aforementioned ship from the city of Istanbul to the port of Alexandria,
17.  ]with anchor and hoisting of cargo, whenever it carried the Sultanī gold[
18.  ]and that the aforementioned muʿallim Yehuda shall reckon with the aforementioned raʾīs Muḥammad,
19.  ]and they mutually attested to all of that, the lawful attestation; and that the[…]
20. ]aforementioned in the said ship, in selling and buying and ..[
21. ]not except with his knowledge. The raʾīs Muḥammad attests to that attest[
22. ]that he fulfills, and he requested the ruling in the lawful agency.

24.   ]And when that was completed and perfected with witnesses, as is customary, and […]
25. ]may God render their testimony and its issuance [good]
26.  ]according to what each of them testified, upon confidence in that it is a valid judgment
27. ]fulfilling its legal conditions and its safeguarded, observed obli[gations,
28. ]with trust in the Generous for that and through Him; and [it was] witnessed on the date above, and [
29.  Barakāt b. ʿĪsā al-Ḥanafī testified against this — may God show him kindness.
