Folio from a chronicle about the Jews’ resettlement in Jerusalem following the Islamic conquest of Palestine. In Judaeo-Arabic. Written in highly calligraphic script, presumably by a professional scribe. These pages narrate how ʿUmar Ibn al-Khaṭṭāb oversaw the sweeping and cleaning of Jerusalem in search of the Foundation Stone (אלצכרה אלדי הי אבן שתיה). The Jewish elders reveal the spot to him, whereupon he orders the construction of a wall and a golden dome. The Jews send word to the other Jewish communities throughout the Levant informing of them of their agreement with ʿUmar. There follows a negotiation between ʿUmar, the Christian patriarch (אלבטרך), and the Jews regarding how many Jews will be permitted to move to Jerusalem. The patriarch suggest 50 households, the Jews ask for at least 200, and they compromise at 70 households. The Christians are alluded to as the "rivals/opponents" (khuṣūm) of the Jews. The Jewish neighborhood in Jerusalem is specified as the southern district known as Sūq al-Yahūd as well as the area around the waters of Silwān for ritual immersion. ʿUmar grants the request, and 70 households from Tiberias and the surrounding area move to Jerusalem and rebuild these neighborhoods.
