Description

Two fragments from a legal document in the hand of Ḥalfon b. Menashshe ha-Levi (1100–38). Mentions 1.5 qintars of something, a man named Yaḥyā b. Najm al-ʿAkkawī (cf. DK 237.1 (PGPID 629), l. 32), dealings with somebody's agent, and Yosef and Isḥāq from ʿAsqalān who now live in Bilbays. (Goitein read "haqq"/"dues" instead of "Ishāq" and saw this as evidence of a Landsmannschaft-like organization.) Join: Alan Elbaum. (Information in part from Goitein's index card.) NB: Goitein's citation of T-S Ar.7.32 in Med Soc I, p. 440 no. 9 is actually referring to T-S Ar.7.3(2).
