Marriage contract written by the Gaʾon Eliyyahu b. Shelomo ha-Kohen (served 1062–83). Location: Ramla. Dating: Probably 1064 CE. The property of the bride includes an upper story with its kitchen, toilet (בית כסא), and half a well of non-potable water.

  1. By Your name, our Creator. May they build and prosper, groom and bride.
  2. On the fifth day of the week, which is the twenty-first of the month of Kislev, the second year of the sabbatical cycle, that is year 4[825]
  3. A. M., in Ramle, which is adjacent to Lod of Judea. "I, Yeshuʿa b. Joseph (who) r(ests in) E(den), declare intentional[ly, willingly]
  4. and of my own choice to take as my wife, you Berukha daughter of Ṣedaqa, with a mohar of 200 silver zuz, as has been fixed by [our] lords
  5. the sages to give to the virgins, the daughters of Israel. And I will nourish, provide for, esteem and honor her in the manner of proper Jewish
  6. m[en], who nourish, esteem and honor their wives, faithfully." And willingly
  7. this Berukha, the bride, the virgin, the divorcee, took upon herself and became to this Yeshuʿa, the groom, a wife and the mother of children, with the [intention]
  8. that she will serve ("stand before" him attend him in purity and cleanness. And this Berukha appointed Asad b. Mufarrij as (her)
  9. agent, to care for her affair--with (in the presence of) two valid witnesses who were acquainted with her. And Ṣedaqa b. Ṣalaḥ, Ṣāʿid [ha-Kohen b.]
  10. Eli performed a qinyan with her. And this Asad received for her three silver rings. And the two of them agreed to add to the mohar of the Torah eig[ht]
  11. dinars. Of these he advanced two dinars; he received them from his hand in our presence. And there remain incumbent upon him six dinars, as a debt, sound and established.
  12. And these are what she brought in: a slip, two slips, a skullcap, a qhite wimple, a lamp, a pad--five dinar[s and one third dinar.]
  13. And she also brought in an upper story in the alley of al-Krʾh--a sitting hall, that is one half of the house, mixed, not divided, and all its rights, including the kitch[en],
  14. and the toilet, and half of a well of salty water, for twenty-five dinars. The total of what she brought in is thirty and one dinars.
  15. And this half house is what she inh[erited] from her father Ṣedaqa. And this Yeshuʿa undertook the responsibility of this ketubba and all the court stipulations
  16. from beginning to end. And we performed with this Yeshuʿa a complete qinyan, as prescribed by law, with a proper implement. And they stipulated that her mother Ḥisān has the right
  17. to dwell with them in the house. Sound and established, according to the law of Moses and Israel. In good order. 
  18. Faraj b. Abraham (whose) s(oul is at) r(est). Ṣedaqa b. Yeshuʿa he-ḥaver (who) r(ests in) E(den).
  19. Ṣedaqa b. Ṣalaḥ (may his) e(nd be) g(ood). Ṣāʿid ha-Kohen b. Eli (who) r(ests in) [E(den)].
