Description
Verso: Various jottings in Arabic script. There are eight renditions of an ex libris (min kutub) for Murhaf Ibn Munqidh. There is also a snippet from an order of payment (yadfaʿ al-shaykh. . .) and an entry that looks like it contains numbers or a date. This Murhaf is very likely to be the son of the famous Usāma Ibn Munqidh (Munqidh was the family name rather than the father's name), an Ayyubid amīr active in this period. Murhaf signed a transmission authorization note for his father's manuscript Kitāb al-Iʿtibār in 1213 CE (RBME Árabe 1947, available at https://rbme.patrimonionacional.es/s/rbme/item/15556), but that manuscript is a later copy, likely late 13th or early 14th century (Paul Cobb, "Contemplating Books with Usāma ibn Munqidh’s Book of Contemplation," in Bestsellers and Masterpieces, ed. Blurton and Reynolds (2022), 26). Information from Alan Elbaum, Stephanie Luescher, and Paul Cobb.
