Description

Fragment of a petition in Arabic script. The petitioners complain to the authorities that a certain person is corrupting their religious status quo (niẓām) and preventing them from fulfilling their religious duties (al-iqāma bi-mūjibāt sharīʿatihim) and from their gatherings. Includes a marāḥim formula (wa-hum yasʾalū min al-marāḥim al-ʿamīma).

  1. وقد فسد بذلك نظامهم ويعذر عليهم

  2. الاقامة بموجبات شريعتهم واختلت

  3. اجتماعاتهم وهم يسالوا من المراحم العـ[ـميمة]

  4. ان يشملهم من العدل ما شمل مثله القا[صي]

  5. والداني والمسلم والذمي وتحسم

  6. مادة شكواهم بخروج التوقيع العالي الى [

  1. And it affects their order and makes it difficult for them

  2. to adhere to their tenets of faith and demobilizes

  3. their congregations. They seek from the utmost generosity

  4. that they be engulfed with the same generosity that has engulfed the distant

  5. and the close, and Muslim and dhimmī, and dissipation

  6. of the root of their grievance by issuing a noble decree towards
