Description

Verso: three unrelated documents glued together for the sake of the Hebrew reuse on recto (a dirge with condolences for Saʿadya and Avraham). From top to bottom: (1) Fragment of a letter, or perhaps a petition, in Arabic script involving sums of money concerning financial or administrative affairs. The writer refers to receipts (wuṣūlāt), discusses authority over property or funds, and alludes to the date and amount of a payment or remittance. The letter is written in a deferential tone toward the addressee and appears to defend or clarify an account. The surviving text is too fragmentary to determine the precise circumstances. Needs further examination. (2) Strip from the left side of a letter in Judaeo-Arabic addressed to a notable, mentioning al-shaykh al-Makīn, a known figure from Avraham Maimonides's circle. Refers also to the sender's distress on behalf of Sālim al-Aʿmā ("the Blind"). Asks for help. (3) Fragment from the top of a letter in Hebrew and Judaeo-Arabic addressed to a notable.
