Description

Private account written by Nahray b. Nissim. Around 1053. A draft that was copied later. Nahray marked the dinars that he used for payment. (Information from Gil, Kingdom, Vol. 2, #291). The Arabic text mentions an official ʿAbd al-Salām who supervised "عمارة مراكب الديوان" - maintenance/construction of ships of the dīwān. David Bramoulle suggests that these were state owned ships rented out to merchants (Fatimides et la Mer, 645). It isn't clear whether the Arabic script is in Nahray's hand or of earlier reuse. YU.
