Description
Letter from the judge Natan ha-Kohen b. Shelomo (in office ca. 1125-1150) to Abū l-Ḥusayn Efrayim ha-Kohen b. Yosef the silk-merchant of Damietta. The letter mainly has to do with orders for clothing. Natan reports that the robe (thawb) has arrived with Zayn Ibn al-Parnas, and he requests to be sent the mulāʾa if it is finished, and if Efrayim hasn't yet purchased the biqyār, not to worry, because Natan no longer needs it. He also conveys condolences on the death of the addressee's mother and reports that he has praised the addressee in the presence of the Rosh Yeshiva (Maṣliaḥ?) on Rosh ha-Shana. Greetings to Bū l-Bayān, the addressee's four sons Abū l-Faḍl, Abū l-Surūr al-Ḥemdat and his children, Abū l-Ṭayyib, and Abū Sahl. (Information in part from Goitein's index card.)
